Change your Seed

Gen 37:31 And they took Joseph’s coat, and killed a kid of the goats, and dipped the coat in the blood; 32 And they sent the coat of many colors, and they brought it to their father; and said, This have we found: know now whether it be thy son’s coat or no. 33 And he knew it, and said, It is my son’s coat; an evil beast hath devoured him; Joseph is without doubt rent in pieces. 34 And Jacob rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his loins, and mourned for his son many days.

Jacob, the deceiver reaps a cruel deception. Today is a good day to reflect on the seeds you have sown and begin to sow a different seed. Every act of kindness, every act of giving, every act of betrayal – even if men forgive – will have its fruit because of the word of God which says Gal 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

Jacob and Rebekah succeeded to outwit the aging patriarch Isaac, and all seems to have been forgotten. Decades later, a cruel twist of circumstances introduces a more far reaching family deception into the life of Jacob. Begin to sow seeds of forgiveness and mercy. Begin to sow seeds of love especially when this is not returned. The harvest is usually in multiples of the seed, either for good or for evil. Great injustice is harvested by little seeds of unfairness. The coat of many colors given by man to unfairly single out Joseph is also unfairly destroyed by men in far worse circumstances of injustice.

The man who was a master of lies is also drowned in deception. But then Christ paid in full for our redemption and for our eternity in glory. Still our souls must in God’s mercy go through a process that brings us to know God and be transformed to be like Him. God’s plan is still intact although Jacob reaps a painful betrayal … this time he rests in God’s benevolence and trusts God fully to still work out His perfect will. David reaped the harvest of the seed of murder and adultery even though he received forgiveness from God.

The Apostle Paul was persecuting and putting Christians in prison and in his future ministry he spent most of his days incarcerated, but it prepared his soul best to be of the greatest use to God.

In Christ, the Bible says the punishment that brought us peace was laid on Christ. Christ paid for the evil harvest … but the Apostles also say that God can not be mocked, He is a God of principles; Principles beyond human control and manipulation.  O how we know in part on how He deals in mercy. Only through His mercy will any reach the future promised glory. “‘Tis mercy all, let earth adore” says the hymn writer… but the chorus is also true …“you are going to reap just what you sow – up in the mountains or down in the valley.”  Every day, every moment is an opportunity to sow the right thoughts, words and deeds.

Today, sing of His mercy. Pray for mercy. Give a special offering for mercy even as you change your seed. Sow a different seed of love and mercy. Small acts of kindness.

Song. (Chorus)

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceaseth, His mercy never comes to an end;

They are new every morning … Great is thy faithfulness O Lord (2ce)

Prayer: O Lord, Have mercy on me. Amen

The Songs of Joseph is an integration of encouragement scriptural devotions, prayers and a compendium of songs of mercy, salvation, new beginnings and victory.  We can expect as we trust and obey that our end will indeed be ultimately glorious  because God works His marvellous agenda.   Be blessed as you read and sing along, daily.   Edited by  Bolade Apampa
