My Attempt to be a Good Blogger

I have a friend who just began working a job in social media and marketing and advertising.  Tonight, she told me that the best way to get a lot of hits on your blog is to post every day.

I guess a good writer/author/blogger would never admit that she has nothing significant to write about at the moment, but that’s what I’m going to do.  I’ve written a couple of deep blog posts this week, and right now, I’m a bit tapped out, so I’m basically just writing the first things I think of that are even mildly interesting.

1) Sherlock is on TV.  I love Sherlock.  I’m trying not to watch it though, because I really want to make some good progress on the book annnnd if I watch Sherlock, I literally will not do anything else.

Seriously, can not NOT watch this show?!  Or pretty much anything when Benedict Cumberbatch is on screen?

Okay sorry, my Inner Fangirl is beginning to emerge.  I’ll try to reel her back out.  Honestly though, this series is so good and all the actors are simply brilliant.  And of course, there are so many Smaug and Bilbo jokes to be made (if you’re also a Tolkien nerd, which I am).

2) I’m really trying to connect with more authors and aspiring writers, so if you have written a book or want to write a book, please follow me here or on GoodReads or anywhere else.  I love helping other writers.

3) I’m also really hoping to get more reviews on Cemetery Tours.  Of course, I’d love it if you bought the book and read it and gave it a review, but if you have some free time and you like reviewing books, I’d be happy to email you a manuscript in exchange for good and honest reviews on Amazon and GoodReads.  Barnes and Noble would be awesome too, but I think Amazon and GoodReads are key.

4)  I got another really great review from another fellow blogger.  Thank you so much, http://tjwiltshire.wordpress.com!

5) Apparently used copies of Cemetery Tours are really valuable in the UK.

I hope everyone has a super spectacular weekend!  I’m off to work on my book.

And watch Sherlock.

Tinsley For a blog post with nothing to say you did very well, and for what it's worth I really enjoy Sherlock as well, but probably not to the level that you.

You want to connect with more authors, don't we all? I had my first novel The Guru Game published at the end of 2012, nothing that you would be likely to be interested in as it is very English and is an out and out comedy. However, my next book Seance is due to be published in about a week or two and although not a ghost story in any conventional sense does turn on a shy young bookshop owner forming a spiritual bond with a Victorian woman as a result of attending a seance after reading her journal.

How much time I will be able to find to do it I don't know, but if you would like to e mail me Cemetery Tours I would try and make the time to read and review it.

And apropos of nothing at all, have you seen "The Woman in Black?" Enormous fun.

Jacqueline Smith Oh my goodness, I'm sure I would actually love both your books. My sister and I are both big fans of everything English (hoping to take our first trip to London this summer). I would be honored to do a manuscript exchange with you. Both of your works sound like books I would enjoy very much! I will friend you so we can exchange email addresses over messaging. :)

Jacqueline Smith And yes, I've seen the newest version with Daniel Radcliffe. I enjoyed it a lot! My sister thinks I'm a wimp though, because it actually scared the heck out of me. I startle very easily.

Thanks for reply. Happy to do the friend thing, but as I'm having a few technical problems with Goodreads, I'll give you my e mail address here so you can send your book. It's tinsley123@hotmail.co.uk

I think what I enjoyed about the Woman in Black was that most of it was was atmosphere and suggestion rather than CGI monsters and blood which is definitely not my thing.

Send your manuscript when you can and I will be happy to go through it. I've got one book on the go at the moment and as soon as I've finished it I can make a start on yours.

This could be fun!

Jacqueline Smith Excellent! I will send a PDF your way!

I enjoyed that about the movie too. I always enjoy horror movies until the cheesy CGI monsters appear. Though I really enjoyed The Conjuring! I thought it was very well done and it's especially cool because it's based on actual events.

I know you said you were having technical problems with GoodReads at the moment, but have you considered making yourself an author profile here? It's pretty easy and definitely worth it. https://www.goodreads.com/author/program

Tinsley Thanks. Have received PDF and have sent you a direct e mail.

Glad you mentioned the author program as this is what I am having problems with.I'm no techno head but perfectly computer literate but something simply is not working. I'm told to that to get on to the author program I have to search for my name, click on it which should then bring up page with my profile on the right and a button at the bottom saying "Is this you" But this does not happen(rages and chews carpet!)Yes a page comes up with my name and my book The Guru Game, but no profile and no button at the bottom to click on and take me to the next stage.

If you could help me with this I would be eternally grateful. I've been on Goodreads for about year but have never used it, but with a new book due out any day I'm very keen to do anything that will get it some exposure. My publishers encouraged me to utilise Goodreads but currently it's not working for me.

Anything you can do on this would be appreciated.

Tinsley

Jacqueline Smith Oh my goodness, I'm not tech savvy in the slightest, but I did manage to make my profile work. I think the way I did it was that I entered in my book's ISBN and clicked on it and said, "Hey, this is me!" And then they approved it after a day or so. It's so frustrating when websites don't cooperate. I remember when I was in college, I had to do everything online and it had me pulling my hair out, it was so awful. Good luck and I'll try to think of how I got it to work...

Tinsley Thanks. I'll give it a go.
