Book Review: Miracles Happen by Brian L. Weiss, MD

Going Back to Go Forward

Miracles Happen: The Transformational Healing Power of Past-Life Memories by Brian L. Weiss, M.D.

As an author who writes fiction that features reincarnation as a given and has done considerable research into the phenomenon in history and in the field, I thoroughly enjoyed Dr. Weiss’s latest book Miracles Happen. I haven’t studied his earlier works (intend to do so), which evidently present more of the nuts and bolts of his method of regression, but I got the general idea from the mix of testimonials and commentary that comprise this book.

His inclusion of portals other than strict past life regression (future lives, alternate/simultaneous lives, psychometry) adds breadth and stimulation for those already on board with reincarnation, offering other ways to explore that mysterious inner space.

The many stories, which some have reviewed as repetitive or non-sensational, have a cumulative effect that either introduces the key concept that we are NOT our current bodies/personalities living only this time around or reinforces that mode of thinking for those who grasp it conceptually but are working to “get it” as a living reality. Since we, in the western world, have been conditioned by both religious and scientific authorities to ignore such soul phenomena or attribute them to the dark side, it is taking quite some time and repetition for the so-called occult to leak from its hidden streams back into the main water supply. Nevertheless, as Dr. Weiss points out and his subjects experienced, there are many ills, human and societal, that easily resolve by addressing the deeper past. While not including at least a summary of basic methods (why I gave the book four rather than five stars), this work should motivate many to explore and experience this rather simple route to personal health and enlightenment.

Esme Ellis Not sure if I'm repeating myself, but had you heard of Joan Grant and her books, two of which, Winged Pharaoh and Many Lifetimes I though might interest you? Later in life she worked with, and was perhaps married to, Denis Kelsey, a psychiatrist who specialised in past life regression. I met them both some years ago when I lived in London, and underwent a session with them. I remember him getting quite ratty with Joan who kept interrupting while he was trying to hypnotise me! Interesting also in that they lived in Kensington Gore next door to Sir Jacob Epstein! the sculptor who died 50 years ago, and who appeared in my book, Dreaming Worlds Awake.

Thanks for the tip, Esme. Had not heard of Joan Grant and her work and should have. Have put her work on my reading list. Sounds fascinating.

Esme Ellis You can look her up in Wikepedea (can't spell it!) and get some idea of her there.

Esme Ellis On another tack altogether, I went to your website yesterday and looked at your piece on Glastonbury. I was gripped by your photos, and while I was looking, Michael my husband looked over my shoulder. "He's obviously a professional photographer,' he said. Your text, too, had me enthralled. Speaking as a Somerset inhabitant, did you know that the whole area around Glastonbury, is now mainly under water!? We've just had the wettest weather since records began 100 yrs ago! The Isle of Avalon! It really once WAS an island surrounded by an inland sea, and 1000s of yrs ago people travelled there by boat. The area is called Somerset, precisely because people lived there only in the summer. Our government are now, too late, calling in the military to rescue farmers, their cattle etc. and dredge the rivers.

Victor Smith Thanks, Esme. Not a pro photographer by any means but Glastonbury does magic for any eye or camera. The day there was one of the most marvelous of my life. Did not know it was under water. Somehow appropriate; perhaps some of the old ones will pass through by boat.

Esme Ellis Meeting magic in the everyday - allowing it to happen. Happy accident; that's serendipity. That's what the word means. The last photo you took in that journey to Glastonbury showed your shadow saluting the grave with the red rose someone had mysteriously laid on it.
BTW when I visited your website I discovered a contact email address. I used it to put a suggestion to you, something I wanted to ask, but not publicly. I wonder; did you get it?

Victor Smith Yes, got it. Will answer shortly.

Esme Ellis Hope it's OK to send you this little reminder. It's a week now since you said you'd answer shortly. I know how busy you are, but if you could just put me in the picture with a yes or no.
