Bad weather and a forgotten queen

I am still housebound thanks to the polar vortex that followed our last snowstorm. I figure at this rate the snow ought to have melted by St Patrick’s Day. My sympathies to all of my readers and friends–if not braving frigid air, you all seem to be dealing with deadly droughts (California and Southwest) or horrific heat (Down Under.)
Meanwhile, I am happy to report that Sharan Newman’s new biography of Queen Melisende of Jerusalem is available for pre-ordering on Amazon. Melisende died in 1161, before the time I’ll be covering in my Outremer novel, which opens in 1172, but Sharan’s book gives an excellent perspective on the history and customs of the kingdom. I was able to get an ARC and enjoyed it very much. And Melisende is an interesting figure in her own right.

Jessica P Being in Boston, snow not melting by St. Patrick's Day is fairly common experience sadly :-(

Sharon When I was complaining last week, Jessica, about a windchill of minus 15, a friend in Minneapolis one-upped me by saying their windchill was minus 46.

Jessica P Oh god! I'm ready for Polar Vortex goes away! :-)

Sharon Me, too, Jessica. Did you get much snow in the last storm? Of course you know how to handle it better than we do.

message 5: by Charlene (new)

Charlene We didn't get snow this round, but it was -12F (wind chill) when I left for work this morning. And tomorrow the high will be 53. Crazy weather. Stay warm, Sharon!

Sharon You, too, Charlene.

Jessica P We only had about 6". Some places had 15"! It was a weird storm to say the least. Did you get a lot?

Hopefully we're done for the year!

Helen Hello Sharon, i am following you from Astana, Kazakhstan where tonight will be -37 centigrade! I believe fahrenheit and centigrade meet at -40. I was following your blogs from Karachi before where it was easily +40 C. I do believe parts of America were colder than Astana just a few weeks ago.
Best wishes and keep warm with a good book. Helen

Sharon Thanks, Helen. You, too. I know my Australian friends have been suffering through a brutally hot summer, but it sounds as if it is even worse in Karachi.
