Colleen Since I don't have a LJ account, I have to respond here ...

Up until about 15 years ago, my then boyfriend and I used to go to the Winnetka Drive-In every few months because I could bring my husky with us. We'd pop our own popcorn and get take-out on the way there. We'd arrive early, eat our dinner before the show started, and then we'd snuggle up with a big quilt in the back of my SUV and enjoy the show.

I'm guessing that this is the Drive-In to which you are referring: http://www.charlesphoenix.com/2006/06...

What was cool about the Winnetka was that they had 6 screens and you'd see a double feature for each screen, kind of the multiplex of drive-ins.

But growing up in the San Fernando Valley meant that we had several drive-ins to choose from when we went as a family or later as a car full of teenagers (http://www.garbell.com/drive-ins/driv...). Most often we went to the Victory or Van Nuys drive-ins, which as you can see on the link, also sported neon-western motifs.
