First Lines Friday

Openings to books can be so difficult to get right, and as an author you feel satisfied with those first few lines, well…that is worth celebrating and sharing. Here are the first few lines to the book I’m currently working on, Bewitching Ways.

Avalynn hated the dead.

Their souls called to her. It was nothing personal against them. She hadn’t known most of them during their lives. It was the audacity of those beyond the grave wanting to communicate with her that she loathed. Yet even with her discomfort in dealing with the dearly departed, she often found comfort in the cemetery. Go figure.
