“Trying to get away from me so soon?”

 

Turning her head, she had to tilt it back to get a glimpse of his face. “No, but I still need a little time.”

 

Kegen immediately let go, taking his warmth and smile away. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to push.” He stepped around her and made his brother aware she was there. “Rev, Marlowe brought us a treat. I’m going to go put it in the kitchen.” As lighthearted and unaffected as he tried to sound she could make out an undertone of hurt in his voice.
