An Experience with REIKI
Today I had a Reiki treatment. Reiki (pronounced RAY KEY) was created in 1922 in Japan as a relaxation and healing treatment. It is based on the idea of a Universal Life Force, and practitioners lay their hands on the body of a patient and channel energy in a particular pattern to heal and harmonize.
Although the American Cancer Society and various other randomized clinical trials have not said that Reiki can indeed heal anything, it is a very popular form of alternative healing.
The English word Reiki is derived from the Japanese word Reiki which means mysterious atmosphere. The Japanese word is derived from the Chinese word lingqi which means supernatural influence.
Usui, the creator of Reiki, believed in following five commandments or ethical principles that became known as The Five Reiki Precepts. It is common practice for many Reiki practitioners or teachers to live by these rules. They are:
Reiki does not use any medications, oils, instruments, or require studying. The practitioner uses his hands to feel for energy blocks and to "see" colors and images that come to his mind as he covers the different meridians or chakra points on the patients body. Practitioners believe they are transferring Universal Energy into the patient for healing and attunement. (Wiki)
My session was very interesting. I was instructed to either sit or lie down, and that it was fine to keep my clothes on. Not feeling great today, I chose to lie down. She asked me what I would like to see happen today, and I why I felt I wanted a session. I told her I would love some balance and a sense of peace. Starting at my feet, she placed her hands on the soles. She then moved up to my calves and then hips. To be honest I felt nothing up to this point. I was face down, and she then placed her hands on the small of my back. I felt her hands grow extremely warm and I began getting very interesting images flashing in my mind.
Not all were pleasant, but I remembered her telling me that whatever you experience you need to go through, so I kind of went with it. As she moved up, I could feel a distinct warmth and pulsing or heartbeat in my neck/throat area.Although the room was not hot, I could feel myself getting warmer. The warmth also tingled. At the end of the session she told me when she placed her hands on my root chakra she was supposed to get a red impression, but mine was mixed with blue. She told me this meant I have trouble in the throat area, and possibly with holding things in and repressing. Possibly a deficiency. I found this amazing because I suffer from Hashimoto's disease, a problem with a low functioning thyroid. Hmmmm.
The session went very quickly, and when I sat up I felt quite dizzy. It was short-lived, and within a few minutes I felt great.
Even my brain feels less foggy.
Could it be the placebo effect...I guess. But it has been 2 hours already and no change. I DO feel balanced. Maybe I like The Five Precepts, I'm not sure, but I would definitely go back for another session. In fact I'm writing this because I want everybody to go for a session. I feel like this might make the world a nicer place. I did not write the images I had in my head in this article because some were very freaky. If you are interested I can tell you. Interesting, and slightly creepy, stuff. Please tell me if you have any experience with Reiki or alternative treatments, I am very interested. :) I am seriously pondering taking a class and studying further...I am fascinated.
