Paper that Pops

This is Day 18 of 25 Days of Paper and Day 87 of my 100 x 100 Paper Weavings Project.

This textured paper is made in Ghana from 100% Ghanaian mullberry pulp, grown in the rural areas around the city of Kumasi, in the Asanti Region. The papers are the result of Mary Hark‘s research, funded by the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and is produced by Hark and Ghanaian colleagues working with a fledgling community of Ghanaian book art enthusiasts. The paper is woven with a silkscreen printed paper which is made and printed in India by Shizen Design.

This is the most elaborate holiday card I’ve received this year. It was created by Bruce Foster, one of the paper engineers who will be featured in my new book, Playing With Pop-Ups (to be published in May 2014).

Bruce is quite prolific, engineering books, games, and well you’ll get the idea by viewing the following images.
