Where is the coldest place on Earth?

Because I woke up to a 4-degree morning this headline from the Christian Science Monitor certainly caught my eye. It's comforting to know that my front yard is considerably warmer than a pocket deep in the Antarctic Ice. Even so, I'm still not planning on walking the dog today.

On Earth, it doesn't seem to get any colder then this.(Atsuhiro Muto/National Snow and Ice Data Center/AP) Scientists have apparently spotted Dante’s Inferno, or at least its ice-lacquered ninth circle, found in a pocket in an Antarctic ice sheet…
