One Good Thing Every Day: December 7, 2013

2 Corinthians 4:18 NIV

So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Last Sunday, I wrote about hope. Throughout the week, God has placed in my path His Word just as He promises in Psalm 119:105.

Psalm 25:4 NKJV

Show me Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths.

1 Peter 1:8-9 NIV

Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

Colossians 4:2 NIV

Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.

Genesis 28:16 NIV

When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.”

Colossians 3:23 NASB

Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men.

Hope often flickers within the suffocating darkness of this world. Certainly, the gale-force wind of suffering threatens to extinguish it. Even a tired sigh might snuff it out. Hope focused on this temporary life will die. But, vigilant Hope peering beyond this abyss knows that God’s Eternal Light never fades. Perhaps, like Jacob, my sleep-clogged eyes need clearing to see it. Maybe I must remember for Whom I work or I must apply more heart-felt effort to my calling. Either way, I keep my hope-filled eyes peeled for even a glimpse of His Presence.
