Why Shannara on MTV is a Good Thing

A Letter from Terry

A Letter from Terry

Dear Readers,

You cannot imagine how difficult it has been waiting for this morning’s announcement about the endeavor to turn the Shannara books into a TV series, starting with Elfstones of Shannara. Really, it has been very hard not to talk about it. I’ve known about the particulars of this effort for some time. I’m very excited about Miles Millar and Al Gough writing and Jon Favreau directing. Erica Truth be told the only TV series I can personally recall seeing on MTV was Afro Samurai, which I didn't really care about, so I can't say I have a very strong impression of their entertainment quality outside of music videos and the like.

I'll keep an open mind because I love the Shannara series and have been hoping for a live action adaptation for years.

Jennifer This makes me sad.... I can't get satellite or cable so I guess I'll have to miss out :( Maybe it will come out on DVD eventually I guess though. I love the Shannara series and I hope the show does well. I also loved the Sword of Truth series though and was so disappointed with that show (mostly the acting). I hope Shannara is done better.

Ginger The best of luck to you Terry! Such a beautiful series I hope they do it well for you!

Lorrie Honestly, I'm not a big fan of MTV, but I love the Shannara books and love your work, so I will keep an open mind and give it a chance. I hope they do your wonderful series well. Best of luck to you!

Amber Networks are fickle. I really hope they do this right!

message 6: by Jon (new)

Jon Adams Good luck. Unfortunately, I don't watch MTV and will not change that just for this show. Here's hoping they don't turn your property into genetic watered down bs. Best of luck with that.

Cydni Perkins I doubt I will get television service set up just for this show, but I will gladly watch it on Hulu, Netflix, or DVD.

message 8: by Jackson (new)

Jackson I remember when the Music TeleVision channel had music on it. That said, this is the first of their non-music related programming I can actually get behind. I'm a bit worried but willing to give it a shot. Here's hoping it turns out to be great!

message 9: by Larissa (new)

Larissa My dad got me hooked on the book series when I was in middle school, we are both VERY excited for this :D

Amanda Gorry WoW! I think this would make an excellent TV series - I sincerely hope the end result is shared with other channels and broadcast over here in UK :-) (or at least comes out on DVD so I don't miss it!!)
