Oh, Nancy, I'm so sorry for your loss - of childhood without trepidation, friends with whom to commune, of lack of appreciation. You were so good at hiding all of that. I, on the other hand, am blessed to have such a friend for all these years. Thank you for being the you you are. And I probably should have posted this on FB and I hope here is OK. Patty Collins (in case this doesn't id the poster)

And thank you for caring about me, but there's no need to be sorry; we all have a wonderful childhood as well as a terrible one. I could not have posted this if I still had to hide, so I'm okay! Congratulations on your recent good news re PJ!
Funny thing is, I recently went to Abe books and got all five volume's of the Book of the Sun....which at the age of 70 I remember fondly reading when they where published....haven't had the chance to reread then as yet but will be soon.....

I'm glad you found the five books, but the good news is, in a year or two they will all be available from E-Reads. Thanks for remembering fondly. :)
Thank you so much for sharing this. I read your 'Book of the Sun' as it was published, and wondered about the author. I'm so sorry to read of your pain, and so grateful for the background you provide. Selfishly, I will re-read these books with new eyes, but I will also wish I could have lightened the load you've carried. Be well, and thank you.

Wow... A lot of heartache and emotion here... Thank you so much for sharing all these very personal experiences.Of course now I want to go dig up those early books! ;-) Hopefully you're re-releasing them all as e-books, right...?

Richard! I thought your avatar was a crocodile until I investigated and found it was a dead, rumpled, green rat. Why? You are so not a rat. You're my most faithful blog-reader. Don't hold your breath waiting for the e-books of my early work, but yes, sometime. And thank you.

The rat motif is part of a long story; a joke during my college years: [link redacted] (I apologies for inappropriately linking to that in your blog comments. My website can be reached through my profile page. Now it's a Martian rat under the 2 moons.)
Oh! FWIW, I see The Silver Sun is available in Kindle version... Oh wait, all 3 you mentioned are available. :-)

Richard, of COURSE it's a Martian rat. I should have known that. And I'm glad you found The Books of Isle (the three I mentioned) on Kindle! Happy reading!
My Fantasy roots go back to my early readings of Robert Howard's Conan in the early Gnome editions and of lotr series in the Houghton Mifflin hardbacks I got from the Library and read in a whopping 3 day binge....
