It Goes Ding When There's Stuff

And contains spoilers, so be warned.

So I finally just got to see the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who and...

Is it just me, or did they take a standard, monster-of-the-week Doctor Who episode and convert it into the 50th? Really?

I was blown away by the opening, and I loved the ending shot of all current doctors, but the middle...felt like I was watching a reasonably good, albeit standard, episode.

How did they get out of Trenzalore? Did they not think it would be awesome having an epic space battle inside The Doctor's mind? That would have been all the excuse needed for everyone, all the doctors, all the companions (with creative casting, I'm sure).

I was about halfway through when I realized something was wrong: as much fun as watching three doctors on screen was, this didn't feel like an epic special half a century in the making. It just didn't. I enjoyed it, it was well-cast, fun to watch, and I liked how it's ultimately about The Doctor redeeming himself, but...

How did they get out of Trenzalore?

Also, when the Time Lord went, "There's twelve of them!" and was answered, "No, there's thirteen." I've been told who the Valeyard is, although I haven't seen those episodes, I know we're nearing the time when The Doctor snaps and decides stealing is past/future regenerations from a future form is a good idea.

So...was that Twelve, or was that the Valeyard?

I've wanted to see Susan return for some time what with her being the first companion and a blood relative of The Doctor. They've started making references to her, with The Doctor telling Clara he used to take his granddaughter to the planet they were on at the time, and with Clara examining picture of her at the end of the episode. It makes me wonder if they're planning on doing that.

And how did they get out of Trenzalore?!
