Cornucopia

Holiday Bonus! The Well-Versed Mom invited me over for Thanksgiving haiku. It's not too late for you to join us. At least come over for dessert, won't you? And while you wait around for turkey or football or whatever, it's time for the first ever . . . Happy Thanksgiving Haiku Contest!Picture While I'm busy giving thanks and whatnot, it's time for you all to take up the slack. Don't be like that one sister-in-law who slips away every year just when it's time to do the dishes. Roll up your sleeves and pitch in a haiku, for heaven's sake.

That's right, we're having a holiday haiku contest--as suggested by Suburban Haiku booster Cheryl Onderchain. (HOLLA, Cheryl!) You have until noon eastern time on Sunday December 1 to leave your holiday weekend haiku in the comments below. Follow the typical rule of three lines, with 5 syllables on the first line, 7 syllables on the second, and 5 on the third. And it's nice to have a little zinger in the last line, isn't it? I think you'll find it rather cathartic.

The winner will be chosen by our esteemed judge Jeannine Everett a.k.a. Momaiku. I hesitate to tell you about her, because I'm afraid you'll like her haiku a little too much (i.e., more than mine). But in the spirit of goodwill, I'll share the gift of Momaiku and point you here and here. (You don't need to send me a thank you note.)

Enter as many times as you want. Tell your friends. The winner will receive a Suburban Haiku tote bag. (Sore losers and haiku refusers can go buy one on Zazzle.)

Oh, and as long as you're here counting out those syllables, why don't you go ahead and subscribe? Right over there where it says "Free Delivery!" You wouldn't want to miss it when I announce the winner, would you?

I will sneak peeks at your entries over the holiday weekend (probably in the bathroom, possibly while crying). Good luck to us all. Enter here:
