A queen in exile

I would like to wish all my American readers a Happy Thanksgiving and safe travels, especially for those of you in the path of the storm. I’d also like to wish a Happy Hanukkah to my Jewish friends and readers. And on this date in history in 1198, Constance de Hauteville, the Queen of Sicily and unhappy consort of Heinrich von Hohenstaufen, died at age forty-four. Constance had a remarkable, dramatic life in which she proved herself to be very courageous and just as resourceful. My first ever short story, A Queen in Exile, relates Constance’s life and will appear in George RR Martin’s anthology, Dangerous Women, due out December 3rd. Constance is also an important character in A King’s Ransom.

RJay Sharon-I'm thankful this holiday for discovering your books. They have led me on a rich journey that will likely last the rest of my life. Thank you for sharing your talent and imagination in bringing so many fascinating people to life. Thank you for blogging and reminding us regularly of those who came before us!

I've often heard that "history repeats itself". In many ways medieval life and life of today are not all that different. The common man struggles to survive and pay taxes. Those in power make decisions in their own best interests leaving the common man to suffer the consequences.

And this leads me to question religion. After all, it is a man-made phenomenon, is it not? Yet so many wars have been fought and continue to be fought supporting one civilization's interpretation/beliefs over another. Why? It all seems pointless. Will we never learn?

Leila I always enjoy all the interesting information you post on here so faithfully Sharon. Sometimes, as in this case if I haven't heard of the people you tell us about, it leads me on therefore to delve further into their lives (the beauty of the net) I shall certainly be on the lookout for George RR Martin's anthology "Dangerous Women" Looking fwd to your next book.

Sharon Thanks, Leila and Rosemary!
Rosemary, when I was researching Lionheart, I kept thinking, as you do, how little things have changed in the Middle East. Very sad.
