#8Sunday #SundaySnips Jacob Lowell

http://www.wewriwa.com/
Welcome to Eight Sunday, the blog hop where writers post eight sentences of their work. I finished the first round edits for All Things Returned, the third part of the Anton and Lenora series, this week. Last week, I posted the introduction to Jacob Lowell, a man who causes Lenora a lot of trouble. Here's the next part--
“Well, well,” Jacob said once he had steered me away from Anton, “the little kitten has fallen on her feet after all.” “I have no idea of your meaning, sir.” This was not true. It was clear Jacob meant to insult me and to remind me of the trouble Anton and I had left behind in Rio port when we’d been forced to stop there for repairs. I had, at the time, been unhappily promised to a man named George Settle, who had beaten his first wife and would no doubt have treated me with equal contempt. Mr. Settle had, with Lowell’s help, pursued us to Brazil. We had fled that place, leaving Mr. Settle behind us, dead in a pool of his own blood. His death had been by my hand, and this fact vexed me.
