One of the funniest things that people say to me, as an author...
"Wow, you're not at all like your characters!"
I'm not sure what this means, exactly, but I suspect it serves as a corollary to what people who know me in real life say when they find out I write books:
"Oh, so do you, like, write romance and like Jane Austen-type historical fiction and stuff?"
