Quick Tip for Facebook posts
I didn't intend to experiment but it worked out like one. Yesterday, I put a post on my author FB page announcing that Mark Taylor: Genesis was doing a Kindle Countdown Deal. I've been aware that Facebook wall posts with links in them aren't seen by as many followers, but I really had no concrete proof.
The post I made yesterday had only 49 views in over 24 hours. I looked at it a few minutes ago and realized I had forgotten to put the link to my book in the comments rather than in the wall post itself, so I re-posted the exact same post, except I moved the link to the comments. A half-hour later, out of curiosity, I checked to see how many views it had. I couldn't believe it! It had already been seen by 70 people!
I don't know how long this tip will be valid before FB changes their ways, but it really stinks. They want us to pay to boost posts, and I've done that a few times, but I hate doing that. It's not organic and shows the posts to friends of those who like my page--as if their friends will automatically want to get posts about my books and share the same reading tastes.
What I really hate is that whenever I post something on my wall, a box pops up encouraging me to 'Boost this Post' and it usually has a starting cost of $30 already marked in the box. All I would have to do to 'boost' the post is to hit an enter box. That's it. Sometimes it comes up for $60! I'm scared to death I'll accidentally boost a post or two. You can go in and change the amount to as low as $5, which is the most I've ever done, but it bugs me that we have to pay to boost the posts to our followers.
Anyway, does anyone else have any good tips for using Facebook to reach readers?
ETA: It's now been 50 minutes since I posted the FB post. It's been seen by 149 people. Quite a difference! The one from yesterday is still at 49 total.
