THE TANGRAM ZOO AND WORD PUZZLES TOO! by Bette Stevens
The Tangram Zoo and Word Puzzles Too! is a resource for multi-cultural and interdisciplinary studies in the classroom or at home. Integrates Math (measurement and geometry) and Language Arts (research and writing) for elementary and middle school students, while presenting a few historical facts about tangrams. Tangrams and word puzzles (rhyming riddles/poetry) encourage students to have fun while they’re learning, and then to demonstrate what they’ve learned. Includes ideas for home/school projects. Tangram outlines, with rhyming riddles as clues, are even labeled for coloring for preschoolers. Hands-on fun for the whole classroom/family!
Bette’s love of children, of literature and of learning inspired her to write ‘The Tangram Zoo and Word Puzzles Too!’ She has used this book as a teaching/learning resource in the classroom with students of all ages. Stevens’s second children’s picture book, ‘Amazing Matilda: A Monarch’s Tale’ was released in July 2012 on Amazon.com. This creative tale of a Monarch butterfly and her meadowland friends was written to inspire readers and listeners alike, not only to follow their own dreams, but to encourage others to do the same.

THE STORY OF SASSY SWEETWATER by Jane Cook
After thirteen years on the run Violet McLaughlin returns to Carter’s Crossing, South Carolina, in 1962, with her young daughter, Sassy. The Crossing is right outside of Beaufort and the turmoil of the Civil Rights movement will forever leave its scars on the young and impressionable girl. As Sassy stands before the imposing white farmhouse for the first time, with no knowledge of her history but that the McLaughlin’s are her kin, Sassy begins a journey that will tear her apart before it heals her. Growing up among secrets that will forever damage her relationship with her mother, she attempts to make sense of her past. But will her passion for art and her love for Thomas Tierney be enough to sustain her future? Will the puzzles she must solve to discover who she is be worth the journey?
The Story of Sassy Sweetwater was Vera Jane’s second southern fiction novel and received a five star ForeWord Clarion review last year and was a finalist for their book of the year awards. The book also won the Eric Hoffer Honerable Mention for fiction, 2012.

BY HOOK OR BY BOOK by D.R.Meredith
Planning to write a paper for Smithsonian Magazine on the cultural significance of string figures, such as Cat’s Cradle, librarian and unemployed paleopathologist Dr. Megan Clark has a wonderful idea that will help her with her research. She will organize a convention and invite all the members of the International String Figure Association to attend. She invites the Murder by the Yard Reading Circle to forgo discussing mysteries and help her with her convention. The membership, eccentrics all, and recently introduced to making string figures themselves by Megan, enthusiastically agree, even Ryan Stevens, history professor and Megan’s best friend. Ryan mainly agrees because he sees no way that Megan can get into trouble at a string figure convention. What’s the worse that can happen? She gets tangled up in her own string? When a long-lost manuscript about string figure art is offered for silent auction by a greedy and very unpleasant conventioneer, Ryan discovers that Megan Clark can attract murder like a magnet attracts metal files, and that certain string figures can be lethal.
A fan of mysteries since a childhood obsession with Agatha Christie and Rex Stout, D. R. Meredith has written three mystery series set in the Texas Panhandle, a little-known area of the state even to other Texans. Two titles, MURDER BY IMPULSE and MURDER BY DECEPTION, in the John Lloyd Branson series were finalists for the Anthony Award. An equal obsession with the American West inspired her to create two historical sagas, A TIME TOO LATE and THE RECKONING, which she describes as “two hanky books for readers who want their hearts tugged while satisfying their curiosity about the Old West.” The book review editor for ROUNDUP MAGAZINE for more than twenty years, Meredith owns a private library of more than 5,000 books on the American West.
