It Doesn’t Have To Take Five Years (Part 3)
If you want your dream to support you, it has to make money, right? Three years ago I never thought I could make money with the Internet. It seemed like a great theory but not really practical.
It’s a cool Sunday afternoon here in Wisconsin and I already got my workout in, what are you up to? Today we’re going bring it all together and talk about how you turn your passion into profit online. Are you ready?
A little review
The best way to start and one of the most important things is to change your mindset. If you don’t believe in yourself and your dream, you’ll never fully take action on it. Once you believe, get practical, create/pad your emergency fund. You’re going to need something to fall back on.
Then research the heck out of your dream, see exactly what it’s going to take to make that dream a reality. After the research, put that plan together, a step by step plan.
After all of that, take action: take small steps. Go slowly at first and test the waters, than keeping taking action. When you keep taking action, one thing that has to happen is income.
For this to work and support your family, it has to make money
The main theme of what I’ve been talking about is getting clear on who you’re talking to and how you can serve that audience. Once you’ve figured out this vital information, then what?
Knowing who that audience is and what ways you can help then opens up the door to create. You create products and services that best helps that audience. Most of the time, content is created by what we think our audience wants to hear, there’s too much of us in the equation.
When you step back and listen, what you hear will surprise you. What are the things affecting your audience the most and what can you create that will help solve those problems?
Your offerings
To make money you first have to figure out the ways you’ll generate income. Will you coach/consult? Will you have books? What kind of information products?
My suggestion is the simpler the better. Start with one area, make a couple of dollars and move onto the next thing. Listen to your audience, what offering will help them and help them right now? What do they most want to see from you?
Reach out
Once you’ve figured out where to start, and what to create, get to it. The key in creating is creating valuable, actionable content. Go over the top with the value you provide, try to really help.
After that, it’s a matter of figuring out where you’re audience is and spends their time. Is there a larger site then yours that you can guest post on? How can you get involved and let people know you’re alive?
Good marketing comes from knowing your audience and reach out to them in ways that they understand. If you understand them, you understand how to reach them. If there is an element of you in your audience, what would work to reach you?
There are a number of ways to make money online, you’re probably familiar with them. You can do affiliate stuff, you can have ads but I personally prefer promoting and selling your own stuff. You get most of the profits and it’s your thing, you put your blood, sweat and tears into it.
Once you have all this foundational stuff in place, it’s a matter of figuring out how much you need to make versus how much you spend. As the dollar’s start to roll in and you see what’s working, take things to the next by making what you have better and smoother for your customers.
It’s not easy but it can be possible and it can be profitable, get to it!
What can you create that your audience would respond to? Get specific!
