Laura Minnick This particular one looks as if the bride is confessing to her father that she doesn't want to go through with the wedding. The despair in her posture suggests to me that it may be an arranged wedding, something involving property exchange (this is a VERY wealthy family- that dress is very costly), and that she *cannot* get out of it. And her father is presenting a small bit of sympathy in his face, but body language, if fairly stern, says 'But you must. Get up.'

I think he likes the theme of a weeping bride, and is exploring the possible reasons for a bride to be weeping, and suggesting them only by context. Rather fun, looking for all of these little clues...
