INODUS!

Disclosure: These photos are not mine.
Picture November is like a holiday in Mazatlán. Yes, those snowbirds begin making their EXODUS from the north in hoards. Nothing will stop these birds, their excitement to make the trek takes over their very existence.

I pondered this morning, "What is the opposite of EXODUS?" I even looked it up. To my dismay, the words I found were boring, not worthy of describing this extravaganza. So I made up a word to illustrate this monumental affair. "Of course!" I exclaimed. "It can only be described as our yearly INODUS."

I used to be a bird, my suitcase was packed a month ahead of my flight, my heart left before my body. It was all I could do to function that last month while still up north. Folks will do anything to get down here where the birds (feathery)  sing, the gentle breeze cools you from the sunny skies... the food, the culture, the friendly faces... the palms, flowers, THE BEACH... the music. You see? I could go on and on. These are the thoughts that are fluttering through their minds weeks before they actually make the trip. Boat, plane, car, train -- I am telling you, the desperation is deep within their souls. The snowbird will get here one way or another. Picture Those who live in ports may get mixed up in aquatic traffic jams... Picture The open sea, countless number of birds will board anything that floats. Picture They will take their chances, live through extreme danger just to get here. Picture Amphibious contraptions may be a good option. Picture Flying will be the choice for some, any airline will do. Picture The Mazatlán airport will be jammed. Picture No boat? No plane? No problem. Picture Whatever it takes to get here. Picture I think I see my friends on this vehicle. Picture Yes, now I am sure these are my friends. Picture "Please, we have been at sea for three weeks, let us tie up!" Picture Yes, the masses are in their INODUS, making their way to the fruitful life they yearn for in Mazatlán. Picture The women, oh the women. When they see this little city, they can't help but scream, all of them dreaming that they will be able to touch her ground. Picture Some come in style. Picture Some don't. Picture The Nogales border, oh, the fun that this drive has to offer. It is such a rush to enter into the country that houses their beloved Mazatlán. Picture A northern politician may think,"Get those stinkin' ex-pats out of here." Picture All are happy. The politician who doesn't miss these folks, the snowbirds... while basking in their fiesta-style of life. Picture The city will explode with glee when they arrive. Picture There will be no holding back. Picture They are welcome, it is their party for the next six months. Yes, the INODUS has begun, and no one is happier than the birds and the city. It is a marriage of sorts, with both parties delighted, both looking forward to meeting again. Hurry up little birds, we await you and have plans to embrace you this year, and all to come.
