A very special reading list

A month ago, my friend and colleague, the superb teacher and best unknown writer in America, Les Plesko, committed suicide in Los Angeles.

He left behind quite a legacy, between his friends--we had all studied together with the writer Kate Braverman--and the over 1000 students he taught at UCLA extension.

We created a blog site for him, 'Pleskoism', and his students have begun to share handouts, syllabuses, stories and notes from his 20 years of teaching. Among these was a compendious, stunning reading list that I could not help but share.

Dustin Janet- I hate to bug you again, I'm sure you're very busy writing and reading, but I read your words on your beloved friend the other day, and it's been on my mind ever since. This came of such a devastating shock to me, I can't begin to fathom the impact his death has made on you, his fans around the world, 20 years worth of students, and Plesko's family, of course. You have my heartfelt condolences, my friend.

I also wanted to thank you for leading my to his work. Les Plesko sounds wonderful, a force to be reckoned with, a voice I am very much looking forward to hearing.
