Apparently my cover-making compulsion wasn’t over. Isn’t over? It better be over now, because I’ve branched into the paying-for-images gig and there’s just no going back.
Don’t get me wrong, I adore the public domain — I want to make love to it — but public domain images are mostly depressing. For each elegant photo you find in the public domain, there are one hundred hideous shots that look snapped by a two-year-old.
Worst part: all the public domain image sites seem to advertise for the paid image sites, so you search “satin sheets” and the pub domain site is like, HERE YOU GO:
And right above it are 20 tantalizing images from the paid site, like, HERE YOU GO FOR JUST $199.00 A MONTH:
I can’t tell you how many times I’d see the perfect cover image… and for one sad, fleeting moment think that it was free. “OH GOD THANK YOU PUBLIC DO–oh… oh, I see…”
Anyway…
… speaking of satin sheets… and overpriced imagery… and hot book covers…
