CJ’s Answers

For the last two weeks you’ve been asking me questions, here on my website, on Facebook and on Twitter. Most of that time I’ve been on the road, touring the UK to support Night School Fracture, so I filmed my answers all over the place – in Gloucestershire, Monmouth, and Dorset. In my car, [...]

Juliana This question is probably asked a lot but, how do you come up with your ideas? Also do you have any advice to writers like you?

I am a writer, but not published yet. I am working on a book right now. Maybe you can read it and give me advice?

C.J. Daugherty Ideas tend to clobber me in the face. An old building, a picture in the newspaper, a weird incident -- these can all give me a book idea. In fact, I have so many ideas, the thing I lack is time to write them.

My advice is to read everything and be aware. Ideas are all around you -- you just have to be open to them. Like spirits.

I wish I could read your book but I'm so busy for the next few months I barely have time to read my own manuscripts! I suggest you do what I did -- get some trusted friends to read it and give you their thoughts. I included my meanest friend on the list because I knew if there were flaws, she'd tell me. And I really wanted to know. No professional writers need to read your book because your readers won't be professional writers. You just need people you trust.

Good luck and keep writing! CJxx
