This One is Personal

My son, Samuel, was born with a port-wine stain that covered half of his face. It was very dark red and the skin on that side is slightly thicker than the skin on the other side of his face. Luckily for Sam, they can now treat this condition, where even ten-fifteen years ago, that option did not exist. The treatments are very expensive and painful, and so far, Sam has had four laser surgeries, which have improved the overall appearance. He will have to have several more. However, he still gets stares and whispers, and I can't tell you how many times I've overheard someone say, (mostly little kids who don't know better) "What's wrong with his face?"

In my new book, Making Faces, I introduce you to Ambrose Young, a handsome, young, athlete who volunteers to serve his country and is injured in Iraq. This is a special story, and it's an important one. It's funny and romantic and heart-breaking. I hope my romance readers won't be turned off by Ambrose Young or his injuries, both emotional and physical.

Available on October 20! You can pre-order it on Amazon right now! I would really love to see this book do well, because it isn't your typical romance. It will break your heart, but you'll love every second of it.

I'm with you, Ruby. I also have 3 girls(1 high school, 2 college) and they read them after me.

Sophie "Beware Of The Reader" I already ordered it Amy and I'll certainly write a review too. I enjoyed "Running barefoot" and "A different blue" so, so much! Now, thanks to my warm ;-) recommandation, a dear friend of mine is also one of your fan. She read "Running Barefoot" and told me she never cried so much. So good luck with this new one too!

Sophie, did I tell you the little girl on the cover of Running Barefoot is also named Sophie? My niece - Sophie McPherson - posed for that shot. Thank you so much for your message and for spreading the word.

That is what I LOVE to hear. My two teens are readers and their input is so helpful. I am so glad my books appeal to moms and young adults alike.

Sophie "Beware Of The Reader" Amy,
Yes you did mention it. And it's with great pleasure I'm sharing your work!

Amy, Thank you for this story... I can not wait to read it. My son was born with an Optic Glyoma, and now has a left eye prosthesis. It still amazes me how cruel people can be. But my son has the thickest skin I've ever seen! Multiple surgeries later, and he's still a handsome young man. Prayers and Blessing to you and your family!

She Picked This Book I just finished reading this book. It was fantastic. Thank you so much for writing this and my well wishes go out to your son and the rest of your loved ones.

Katrina Hogan I laughed, I cried,I sobbed but most of all fell in love with this book and it's characters. It hit so close to home due to the fact that my son is suffering survivors guilt over the loss of his best friend last year in Afghanistan and because I have someone in my life very much like Bailey.

Thank you so much for the beautiful read, the wisdom of your words and the poetry of your soul. You've touched more lives with this book than you realize.

message 26: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly No words for this story! It is absoultely the best story of 2013 IMO and it will stay with me for a very long time. I don't know how you did it but all the characters in this book are great and I love each and every one of them (except Becker of course) Bailey is the greatest!!!!!!!!!! I am pimping this book so hard which is something I really don't do.

Sadly, Katrina, survivors guilt is very common, and we have a lot of soldiers coming home dealing with a lot of stuff. Thank you for sharing that! I'm so glad you loved the story.

Michelle This book was beautiful, truly heart warming and realistic. I am so happy with the unpredictable writing and the poetry that was entwined. All the amazing spirits in this book seemed real. My stomach jumped and my heart race and a few tears snuck free. I also laughed as well. When Paulie said "do you feel that?" I could feel it every single time. And Bailey was a most brilliant man, a shining star in the darkest of moments. Brilliant author with tremendous talent. Thank you for this story and I look forward to reading more from this author.

Blazeby5 Wow. Just wow. This story was meant to go straight to the heart. I wish it had been written, & I wish I had read it, during my high school days. I am so grateful that I will be able to share this with my 3 gurlz now. Maybe they will look a little deeper. Find the positive in all situations. Enjoy the little things. Dance freely. Stay true to themselves. And appreciate each day.
Thank you Amy.

I just started reading this book and already am struggling to put it down....I have a daughter with muscles problems, facial disfigurement as well as autism and this story just went into my heart...apart from the wonderful writing style, empathy, and beautifully created characters, this story so nicely blending with friendship, dealing with loss as well as love and hope.....

Thank you, Lily. I think most of us have dealt with similar issues in some form or other, and this story speaks to us on a primitive level. Thank you for taking a minute to comment. I really appreciate that.

FMABookReviews Absolutely wonderful! Truly heart-warming and inspirational. This is not in my top 5 of the favorites of the year, but EVER! I am a mom of two teenagers, and was so glad to finish this book and realize I could share it with them...it is "clean". The message is clear, and the writing is captivating. I loved it!

Thank you, Angela! I have teens myself and love sharing what I write with them...which I guess is why I keep it in the PG-13 zone. I've found that good romance is all about falling in love with the characters anyway, and that doesn't take sex if I really work to get it right. Thank you again!

message 38: by Tt (last edited Nov 27, 2013 10:55AM) (new)

Tt I finished this book around 4:30 am this morning and normally once I'm finished a book I am already looking to the next book I want read. Well not so much this time. After reading Making Faces, I am still immersed in the story like i know the characters and they exist for me. This story grabbed me and won't let go. Every single character was extraordinarily brought to life on these pages and I don't think just one reading will do for this book for me. I love this story for all the realities it put in front of my face, all the questions that were asked and not always answered and for all the deep emotions it is still invoking. I can't move on yet..and it's not a story I will forget. This one goes in my Best of the Best group.

message 39: by Amy (new)

Amy Harmon Thank you so much, Tt. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
