Irvine Welsh: Big Dreams, Small Budgets

I was reading over some Irvine Welsh this morning, and I found this in Trainspotting:
"A lot of young people living on big dreams and small budgets stand sombrely in line at the London rank. The only cheaper way down is by thumb." (p. 325).

I don't know why, but I think it's a fantastic couple of sentences.
