Self Published and Happy

So it's probably fairly easy to tell I'm new here and new to being a published author. It's been a dream of mine for many years. But after receiving rejection after rejection from literary agencies I finally decided to take matters into my own hands. I did a lot of research on self publishing but the problem that stood in my way before I could ever get started was financial. The cost of self publishing was VERY expensive and even though my husband supported me, we just didn't have that kind of money. So after a lot of worry and even more prayer, a friend who works at an Amazon distribution center told me about Kindle Direct. So I researched it. I found Amazon's CreateSpace program. And the best part was that it was free. The downside was that I had to do everything myself. And by everything I mean all the editing, all the interior design, all of the cover design. And because I don't own any design programs I simply used a photo and added my name and title. Because I couldn't afford anything professional, my book doesn't look exactly as I had pictured. But I believe that what's on the inside on those white pages is what matters most. Now I have two books in paperback and digital...REDEMPTION and SACRIFICE. Coming soon is GRACE.

I do believe that self publishing was best road for me to take instead of waiting and waiting on an agent. What worried me most about an agency picking up my book was that I didn't want them to change my book. I was afraid they would completely change the entire feel of the book and the point I was trying to get across (will be discussed in another entry). I feel like with self publishing I'm standing my ground and telling those agencies that I'm going to get my book out there no matter what they think.

If you're thinking of self publishing I say do it. And if you're like me and can't afford those high prices then CreateSpace is for you.
