The extension of miracles

Now, I'm probably never going to be any good at correctly quoting 'A Course In Miracles', and that's fine; there are many people putting effort into this and I'll leave that sort of thing to them. In any case, it's just too easy to use quotes to support the liar's business, by leaving out essential info that might put the quote we're looking at into a different perspective.

For example, the Course is quite clear on the human perceptual world being an illusion. However, it never says that a close examination of this 'illusion' is unnecessary - quite the opposite in fact. The quoting of the 'world is illusion' idea, without the broader instructions that we must look first in order to see it for what it is, seems to suggest we don't have to really look at anything we do. This is obviously wrong and leads to Course students with decades of study under their belts still stuck on forgiving their best friend's minor meannesses, and the majority of Course students, of any length of study, maintaining a total inability to look at the supposedly bigger 'stuff' without flinching.

Why can't we look at the difficult stuff? Because we are persuaded not to by this misperception of the 'world is illusion' idea by you-know-who successfully obfuscating the instructions, again. It's a sneaky bugger I tell you.

Anyways. What are we talking about here? Oh yes, the extension of miracles. There's a great bit in the Course somewhere on this. Someone else might be able to highlight where this is exactly, but the gist is, once we open ourselves to performing miracles, we become a conduit for God's Love which acts through us. But we first have to stop trying to control this process by deciding which miracles to do, and which ones not to do, and who needs them, and who can wait, etc. We have to stop thinking we know what all the outcomes of each one should be, and how it's still all up to us to control everything miraculous we do, as well as the whole universe and everything in it; the liar's game again, of course.

The Course says that we cannot know the full extension of the power of a miracle. For example, I might smile at a person today, with love in my heart, yet without even knowing I do it, because I'm joyful and open to spreading this good, good stuff about. This smile may count as a miracle and the extension of my action in the world could be utterly incredible and wondrous. A bit like the chaotic butterfly's wing, this one smile might inspire the person to do something they weren't going to do had they not been smiled at, and this action could have a further knock on effect, like miraculous dominoes, which may, perhaps, cause a war to stop somewhere far across the world. This is entirely possible and demonstrates, in theory, the wonder of it all.

I had already seen this amazing business in action through the work of certain teachers of mine, and years afterwards it made sense, once I'd understood the Course a little. I finally realised what it was that I was seeing. This was the practical lesson of the Course teachings on the extension of miracles. There's always a practical lesson, thankfully.

Land of Healing

Before the Course came into my life, I had embarked on an intense healing journey. I was initially directed to study shamanism, which is never instructions on how to be a shaman but is, instead, always a deep personal cleansing process, which may or may not lead a student to becoming a full-time healer, usually not. We met and stalked the liar (I didn't know we were doing that at the time either) in all its bitter forms in order to release it and undo.

We sat naked in sweat-lodges. We bared our darkest memories in shadowy, night-time circles. We tracked lost soul parts. We argued, cried, made dear friends and bitter enemies. We breathed hard and remembered being born. We journeyed to worlds beyond our imaginings and trusted those that we met there with their messages and loving advice. We had a ball!! And some of us healed.

What I began to notice, after our meetings, was the massive healing that went on outside and beyond them; these meetings of equals in which the main and single intention was for healing, and nothing else. The healing that occurred outside of the formal healing setting was astonishing in its breadth and limitlessness, and I marvelled at how it could pull in others not obviously connected to the circle for their own healing. I see this still going on today, with this beautiful circle of healing Love intention.

This is surely what is meant by Christ in A Course In Miracles when he points out to us the limitless application that a miracle can have in the world, and how we cannot hope to know how far the healing may travel in time and space.

I'm so happy to be doing this work, without really knowing what it is that I am doing.
