Blue trees

The other day I spent the afternoon in one of the lovely parks of Bucharest, Cismigiu. I had the drawing course book with me (Betty Edwards, “Drawing on the right side of the brain”) and the chapter on color open. I tried one of her exercises and picked three complementary shades: I used the blue to tone the paper, the brown to draw everything in and put in the shadows and the (what I thought would be a “light beige”) light orange for the highlights. Then I picked whatever was in front of me as a subject. Interesting experiment. It was a bit enhanced by the scanner that’s not picking up the pale color pencils but I sort of like how it came out.
