Sleepy Hollow Thoughts

Okay, it was a pilot and I ALWAYS cut pilots more slack because they have to do so much heavy lifting.

The Bad:

The mythology is painfully convoluted and clumsily delivered. Preview of episodes to come seemed like they’re going to pile on even more and that makes me nervous. Still, the heart of the matter seems to be end of days, good vs. evil, and that’s simple enough to sink your teeth into.

I’m going to chalk up the LET’S ALL PAUSE FOR EXPOSITION moments to the fact that it’s a pilot and pray the “hot witch wife delivers vital info in dream sequence” thing doesn’t continue.

The Good:

Kurgan losing his head. (Why no Queen on the soundtrack??)

Delightful casting—loved Abby, loved Ichabod.

I actually kind of liked that all of the crazy is out in the open as opposed to no one believing them. A little goofy. We’ll see how it plays out.

THAT ENDING. When that thing came at her in the mirror, I yelped. (Oddly, brought to mind Tana French’s In the Woods.) Love that they saved the best part of the “pale horse” quote for the end. Well done, show!

So, I’m still wary, but I’m at least in for another week or two.
