Since few of us have a cabin in the woods to which we can retreat to write, audio can be a vital part of a writer’s landscape. Here are X of the best apps for writers whether you’re looking for aural wallpaper, sound stimulus or musical motivation.
Pandora
The Music Genome Project allows you to select an artist/track you enjoy and then selects similar tracks. It’s a great tool if you want to stay in a particular mood. The free version will occasionally break in with promos, but if you really hate that, you can always subscribe.
Spotify
Pretty powerful streaming music tool, with ‘channels’ that play certain genres, playlists you can make yourself or created by others, ways to ‘like’ certain tracks, so the app can learn your tastes. Again, a free version and a subscription model let you try before you buy.
