Monday Musing about Sports Superstitions
Last Monday while I was checking in with Facebook friends, I noticed a picture that piqued my interest. A devout Dallas Cowboy fan was proudly displaying her DeMarcus Ware jersey. The Cowboys had won the night before, and she declared her new jersey to be good luck. Now she has to wear it at every game.
I got to wondering about sports superstitions, and my research had me shaking my head. Some were interesting, but we will not go into the sports star who urinated on his hands!
One basketball player bounces the ball an exact number of times before attempting a free throw. Another sleeps in shorts with the other teams logo on them. One licks his fingertips before his turn at the free throw line.
One football player eats chocolate chip cookies before a game, no more and no less than two. A lot of them put their gear or pads on exactly the same way every time.
And how about the baseball players who decided not to shave. Those were some scruffy guys, but they stuck by the commitment.
As fans we tend to look for ways to help our team. Some of us wear the same shirt to every game. Some turn their ball cap around backward, believing it brings luck to their team.
I have to confess, I tried last year. It failed dismally!
So are you a fan? Have any special thing you do to bring good juju to your team?
