The bullet narrowly missed Michael's head. He jabbed his horse with his heels and Gold Dust trotted off. Rickard kept pace. A second bullet fired, then a third. Michael's heartbeat pounded in his chest. 

Who was firing on them?

"Where's it coming from?" asked Rosa.

"From the northeast. "
