Excerpt from Chapter 6 of To Be Heard: A story about Willaimsburg Brooklyn.

“It’s wonderful Belgium beer made from sour cherries. It reminds me of that sour candy War Heads. Do you remember those?” We all nodded unsurely, wanting to agree with everything Delbert suggested. He had that infectious quality. “I do love adult beverages that take me back to child-like nostalgia. I think it’s only right.” He told us all about the bar, the beers, and the people that I just explained. Delbert told us he came to Spuyten Duyvil every day. He told us about the one woman that was always around the bar waiting to get laid by men who could care less about such life pleasures. The woman changed here and there, but was always the same situation.

Connor was notorious for his anything-will-do standards when it came to sleeping with women. “So you’re saying there is always a woman in here that is ready and no one takes advantage of?”

“Oh no. I almost always go home with them, but it’s just because I like the idea of waking up in a strange place.” Delbert said. That statement stuck with me, as did so many of the thoughts that left Delbert’s mouth. The idea of waking up in a strange place.
