Reading is an act of faith.

One of my Goodreads friends is currently suffering the slings and arrows of a Badly Behaving Author, so I angry-typed this long polemic about why authors should never respond to reviews, and how reviews are a sacred space meant for readers, and negative reviews rarely hurt sales and may even increase them and blah, blah, blah…but it all boiled down to one thing, and that one thing is so fucking important, it’s the only thing I want to talk about at all.

Reading is an act of faith.

Patty ~ Wrapped Up In Reading Book Blog Well done!!!!!
You are just amazing Leah!!
I've seen authors post on FB, negative things about goodreads and the people on this site.
I think it's quite childish.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
We should be able to rate a book honestly.
As an author, you have to know your work is not going to appeal to everyone and you need to have a thick skin and be able to take criticism constructively.

I've made many friends on here with really wonderful women.
We all share the same passion for books and no one is ever malicious with their reviews.

Leah I totally agree, Patty. And an author should NEVER make a reader feel like they have to defend their opinion.

Wendy'sThoughts This is why I so enjoyed your book. Every time I start a book, I give myself up to the experience. You have defined exactly what takes place. Thank you.

Thanks Leah.
I really think you "Rock"!!
I understand it's a huge accomplishment to write a book and probably scary to open yourself up to criticism.
I just think you have to be able to handle it somehow if you're lucky enough to be able to get your book out to the masses.
You just have to keep on writing!!
Do what you love!!!

Loved your book by the way. :)

Ash Wednesday Even if I ended up not liking your book (which fortunately I did), I'd probably still fangirl you hard just for this :)

And thanks for your support!

Leah No problem. It's my duty. Readers are the reason we do any of this in the first place.

I hope to see more authors standing up and defending reviewers, rather than only speaking out when they feel attacked.

Gitte TotallyBookedBlog Well said Leah!!

Unfortunately it happens to us all and as reviewers we have to grow thick skin in the same way that Authors do when putting their hard work out there.

If only everyone could remember it's all about the book, nothing else and the fact that life would be boring if we all loved that same book.

There's a book out there for everyone and each will affect a reader differently. That's the exciting thing about reading!

Leah Thanks, Gitte! Totally agree.

Grimlock, I'm glad you're sticking with it and having positive interactions. It's a small fraction of authors who behave poorly, but the bad behavior tends to be more newsworthy than the good.

Removed because it names someone. I don't want to get into that here. :)
