Wizard’s Chance – new and improved second edition
Way back when, I wrote a romance about a librarian who wore glasses (like me), with a bigger butt than she liked (like me), who was kind of shy (waving again) and looking to live a happily ever after (which I am!). I called it, Take A Chance. The title was kind of a mantra for the whole writing thing. In my mid thirties, not crazy about my job, feeling kind of blah about the future, struggling to make ends meet, it didn’t take much encouragement from my hubby to make me do something I’d always talked about; write.
With no clear idea of how the whole writing thing worked, other than I loved books, and romance, I sat down and typed. And typed, and typed some more. The result, an 80,000 word novel which I was convinced was awful. But I didn’t let that stop me from submitting it to an online publisher. To my eternal surprise, in August of 2009 it got picked up by Champagne Books in Calgary, Alberta and was published in June of 2010. And thus did my writing career begin!
As my very first attempt at a story, Take A Chance did okay, especially considering it was a soft fantasy romance by an unknown author. It didn’t make any big waves or hit any charts but what it did accomplish was give me the confidence I needed to write. And now, fifty some books later, I look back at my first attempt with nostalgia–and not a little embarrassment. See, I’ve grown quite a bit since I first penned TAC. I ‘found’ my voice and boy has it changed. When the chance arose to get my rights back, I dove on it and reworked Take A Chance, starting with the cover and title. Take A Chance was a title that reflected my inner battle at the time. The new title, Wizard’s Chance, fits the story. As does the new cover. Or so I think lol.
For those who read the original, the story remains the same. What has changed is the flow. I’ve smoothed out the prose, injected more of my voice into the storyline and just given it a face lift to bring it more in line with what my readers have come to expect from me. BUT, that said, don’t buy this book expecting to see Lucifer, or to giggle at shapeshifter antics. This is a fantasy romance, with magic and other cool stuff. And while the door to the bedroom is wide open, the sexual tension I’m known for is a lot more subtle.
That said though, this is still a great story. And yes, I am biased lol. But you don’t have to take my word for it, you can read it for yourself. Then you can tell me what you think.
