Things. Stuff.

Currently reading The Fall of Hyperion, the award-winning sequel to the award-winning Hyperion. I've come across at least a couple "As You Know Bob" moments in the text.

Continuing to chug away at deadlines. Got a couple items off my plate, so I'm feeling pretty good about that. This week will be mostly dedicated to clubbing my stuff before I send it to Mr. Gunn for the workshop.

Now, have some honeydew.

Rich Stoehr I know what you mean about the 'Hyperion' books. I like the series, but the 'As you know...' moments get worse as the series goes on. In fact, Simmons gets worse about that in general, especially in his recent stuff. He's one of my favorites, but lately his books need some serious red pen.

Jeremy Zimmerman My frustration isn't so much with his writing. I think it jumps out at me because I get a lot of advice about writing from successful, published authors. Some of it was through the class I took, some of it has been because of the workshop I'm going to attend. A big, big chunk is opinions from writers on panels at conventions.

So it's frustrating for me to get all this advice and take it to heart, and then read a novel that has won or been nominated for several prestigious awards and see those rules broken.
