Horror for Newbies

this is a post-season 2 Breaking Bad spoiler.

I feel like all these people who hate Skyler on Breaking Bad* are completely missing the entire point of the series. Walter White is not the hero of this story, kids.


*and extend that childish hatred to Anna Gunn, who is a tremendous actor, playing a complex and compromised character.

Adam Tritt I read this just five minutes after watching Skyler take the baby and drive away. The magic of this series is that the writing, the acting, the plotline - all can work to leave you forgetting that Walt is, indeed, not the hero. It all can leave you forgetting his slow transformation to a character the polar opposite to what his son just told the tv reporter (in this same episode) his father was like.

His genuine care for, as though he were a beloved child, Jesse, and, at the same time his consistent use of him, his care for his children while he watches the child of another drown in her own vomit - the tortured look on his face while he lets it happen - all leave us knowing there is still something good in there and, likewise, knowing it will soon be subsumed.

A tremendous job of writing this series is.
