August is drawing to a close and the late summer doldrums are eddying around my ankles. After a week of beautiful (but too cool for August) weather – the heat & humidity has returned, leaving me wanting not much more than a cool breeze & a glass of lemonade! Here are some thoughts on those “lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer…” (Song by Charles Tobias, Hans Carste, and Hans Bradtke).
1. Nat King Cole has always been a swoony, delightful singer!
2. Cicadas get mighty noisy near the end of August. Thank goodness the 17-year’s aren’t due until 2021
3. I had enough energy to make pico de gallo.
4. Then there’s the fermenting station (sauerkraut, kimchee, and kombucha.)
5. And, lastly – one of the many Upper Ground Sweet Potato squash in the garden. (These babies are HUGE!)
Doldrums or not – it’s time to plot out & plant the fall/winter garden. (I must be pretty wicked, cause I’m getting NO rest!)
How are the last days of summer treating you? I’d love to know!
