Stone of Destiny

Legacy of the Highlands was inspired by a quote from the 1320 Declaration of Arbroath in which clan chieftans asked the Pope to help Scotland gain her freedom from England.

In 1296, a symbol of Scottish nationalism, the Stone of Scone (or Stone of Destiny), was taken from Scotland to England and there it remained until 1950 when it was liberated by a group of Scottish students. When they realized the police would stop at nothing to find the stone and return it to London's Westminster Abbey, they brought it to the remains of Arbroath Abbey, covered it with a Scottish flag, and waited to be arrested.

A film, "Stone of Destiny," dramatizes the heist and its impact on the Scottish people's quest for freedom. I watched the movie tonight and highly recommend it. Here's a link to the trailer.
