Do you, or don’t you?

I’m curious how many of you re-read entire series when the latest book is due to come out. The Hollows, or any other. Really, I want to know.

Jill I do!

message 2: by J. Duck (new)

J. Duck There are a lot of times I reread a series when a new book comes out. However, it depends on 1) how long it has been since the last book and 2) how far behind I am in the series.

For example, Stephen King's Dark Tower series and the J.K. Rowlings Harry Potter series. Yes, I reread it beginning to end every time a new book was released.

Currently, I’m rereading Larry Correia’s Grimnoir Chronicle’s series for his latest Warbound release this month.

With your Hollows series, I came in very late in the series. I think A Perfect Blood had just come out when I started Dead Witch Walking. I’m still trying to play catch up. I’m up to Black Magic Sanction, although I already own all of the books up to Ever After so I’m set for the long run. It’s the same with Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files. Still have six books to go before I catch up with him.

Do you reread?

message 3: by Mallorie (new)

Mallorie I don't - sometimes I'll brush up on the last few chapters of the last book but I'm not super big on rereading things

message 4: by Tiff (new)

Tiff I do most of the time.

message 5: by Denise (new)

Denise Not usually only re read series if I read not in order and feel the need to read in order after.

message 6: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen Bruce I usually reread the series pretty much just before the next book comes out, unless Ive only just started the series and there's not much time between the next book. The hollows i've reread a lot, because if you don't reread it before the next book comes out there might be little things that you missed or you go "who the hell is character?"

message 7: by Angelique (new)

Angelique Smith I only re-read when I love the series. If it's not then I just read a few reviews of the old books to 'refresh' it in my mind before I carry on.

message 8: by Ashley (new)

Ashley I doubt I would ever re-read an entire series from the start; that seems a bit over-kill (especially if there was a large number of books, or they were particularly long). However, in the past I have skimmed through the most recent preceding book just to refresh my memory before starting the new book.

message 9: by Scott (new)

Scott McCoskey Currently I only have the first three books and I've reread them so many times that I can pretty much look at the cover & remember the entirety of the story.

message 10: by Carrie (new)

Carrie Donohue I do.. If it has been more than a month or so since i read any in the series I will start over at the begining to make sure I remember all the twists each character went through.. I currently have 3 series' set up to be read back to back.. My librarian LOVES me and so should the writers as every time I see they put out a new book in the line I start back at the beginning while the library buys the new book. And everytime I am ensuring his or her books stay in the library to hook new readers.. LOL I am diabolical that way,,, Hmm does that make me a fiction pusher? LOL
By the way the first paranormal book series I ever read was The Hollows books and I loved it so much that when there were none to read I created a character loosely based on Rachel Morgan LOL

message 11: by Raven (new)

Raven I reread my favorite series all the time especially if a new book is coming out. Rereading a book sometimes gives me a different take on plot points and characters. I like to see how the main characters have grown.

message 12: by Isabella (new)

Isabella It is fun to re-read a series before a new book, but I must confess that I usually read the best parts/books and skim/skip the rest. However if the series has many books there is often no time. It is fun to look back and see if there are any "Easter Eggs" you miss or details that might give you a clue of what will happen next. Also it is a way to dampen the wait until the next book comes.

message 13: by Fenix (new)

Fenix Rose i dont really..well i did one series because it is like one of my all time fav series and i just wanted to read them agian anyways...but mostly i dont..i read so many books and there are so many good ones out there that it is hard to read through a whole series to begin with much less read through them again when a new one is coming out. i like so many authors and their serieses that i jsut wouldnt be able to do that.

message 14: by Laura (last edited Aug 24, 2013 09:20AM) (new)

Laura I do reread series, but not all of them. If I really like the series, it's likely to be reread when a new book comes out. Especially if I feel it's been a while since read those characters. There are a few I might pick out one or two favorites to read again. And then there are series that have 30 some books that it takes months to read through them all so I don't do it for every new book. But yes I do reread that series occasionally as well.

message 15: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Cummings Yes I do. I find there are threads that I don't remember, that are helpful to remind myself of, and it really helps me revisit the things that I liked about the series.

message 16: by Orestes (new)

Orestes I have done that couple of times. I don't anymore due to time constraints. Once the an entire series has run it's course I will read the whole thing from first book to last.

message 17: by Katrina (new)

Katrina Wiese I like to if I have the time.

message 18: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Burton I always try to reread the last book but time hardly allows to reread the whole series. Always anxiously waiting for the next book, especially the Hallows series! ;)

message 19: by Mark (new)

Mark I never have time to re-read any book due to extensive to read list.

message 20: by Amber (new)

Amber Mcdowell I do!! Especially The Hollows series and Merry Gentry series by Laurell K. Hamilton. :D These are my favorites in the paranormal genre. :)

message 21: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Mills I always re-read the previous book about a month before the new one comes out. Especially the Hollows series, as some of the details are especially intricate.

message 22: by Karen (new)

Karen I always reread the previous book right after a new one comes out. The only time I might reread a series is if it has been a long time or I have forgotten a lot of the story then it is worth a full reread. I read a lot of series books so sometimes they can blur together especially if they are similar to another series I am reading.

message 23: by Amy-joan (new)

Amy-joan I've re-read the hollows series (not including the last two books) four, maybe five times. Been a long time fan. :)

message 24: by Michael (new)

Michael Lapage Just hit 40 and work 2 jobs. It is starting to dawn on me that life is too short to re-read then re-re-read a series just because a new book came out. There are so many delicious books to consume, why keep re-reading the same story. Read the newest entry, savour it and then move on... I have hundreds of books that I am currently logging on here and I find myself wondering, "How am I ever going to read all of these?!? But I keep buying telling myself, soon you this one is next...

message 25: by Ashley (new)

Ashley It depends on how long it's been between books. As an avid reader sometimes I fill up the space between with so much that I do a whole re-read. Then sometimes I just do the previous book.

message 26: by Mary (new)

Mary Robbie I am another re-reader. I am following a number of series and it puts me back into the correct world and refreshes the details of that world. Not every series and not every time but often.

message 27: by Deb (new)

Deb B Favourite series definitely get a re-read before a new book (though to be honest, some series get a re-read even when a new release is not imminent)... but if possible my re-reads are by audiobook so i can do some of the hundred other things that really need doing but get ignored in favour of READING.

message 28: by Casey (new)

Casey Depends on the series and when the last book came out. For instance I'm rereading the entire Wheel of Time series now that the last three came out, but for the Hollows or any book that has a new one each year I usually just read the last one and then jump into the new book.

message 29: by L. (last edited Aug 25, 2013 06:30PM) (new)

L. Suzanne No, sorry can't read a book more than once. I can't forget what's going to happen next. Photographic memory won't let me. I am always impatient for the next book though. Love all your work

message 30: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Jaeger No - but sometimes I will re-read a series a couple years later- and this just might become of those- since it had a lot of characters and intricate plots I had so much fun with it. I really am surprised it isn't a movie or series yet because I enjoyed it much more than other things they have made into series!

message 31: by Erika (new)

Erika if i love the series i will re-read them just before a book release date :)

message 32: by Angelique (new)

Angelique I do if there are a lot of charactors and it's been awhile since I've read them.

message 33: by Corey (new)

Corey Clancy I do depending on the series. I just started your Hollows series but really like it so it will probably be one I reread everytime.

message 34: by M&Y (new)

M&Y Depends on how many books are in the series and how many books I've got in my To-Read pile. :)

message 35: by Gwen (new)

Gwen usually yes.

message 36: by Gillian (new)

Gillian Sometimes, yes. It gets harder to do with series that are up into the teens and twentys. I can't reread yours anymore or many of my favorite series. If there's only a couple books then most likely, yes.

message 37: by Pamela (new)

Pamela Gramlisch I must as I have read too many other books/authors in the years or months that a new book is released. Some characters will always remain in ur mind, but the stories I have to refresh my brain on them. Sometimes I only go back a couple books if it's a large a quantity in the series.

message 38: by Pamela (new)

Pamela Ralston Yes, but most of the time I just re-read a few of the last chapters. I re-read the whole series if I can't find anything I want to read right away.

message 39: by Kathy (new)

Kathy Only if I love the series... Currently re-reading The Hollows!

message 40: by hexidecimalhack (new)

hexidecimalhack I do! Re-reading Artemis Fowl since I just got the seventh book!

message 41: by Crystal (new)

Crystal Rose I never do. I might re-read a series once or twice during my lifetime.
