Leonard Cosgrove = Elmore Leonard?

After the recent passing of Elmore Leonard I began to notice similarities between his life and the fictional character, Ken Cosgrove, from the show Mad Men, which makes me wonder if Cosgrove’s character was inspired by Leonard

Both served in the Navy

Both worked in advertising (Cosgrove is an account exec; Leonard a copywriter)

Both are authors (beginning with short stories on the side while in advertising)

Both worked on the Chevrolet account

Leonard had a fascination with guns while in one episode Cosgrove was accidentally shot in the face in a hunting accident
