The power of taboo...
Happy Hump Day one and all,
For my blog this week I have been musing on the notion of 'a sexual taboo', what the most common taboo's really are, and how powerful these remain today...
Last week's post generated some great discussion and in part inspired my thinking for this week, but I also recently took part in a 'Taboo' reading challenge in the BDSM group, and found this extremely thought-provoking. I was reading about a total power exchange relationship and had to consider whether or not this counts as a taboo..? For some people this scenario is an absolute 'no-no' and yet for others this is the preferred state...
The point is that what one person might consider to be 'taboo', another person may actually enjoy..! It's all extremely subjective!
Thanks to Josie Daleiden for sharing insight from her recent book. She is not the first to note that it seems infidelity is still a powerful taboo for many of us. This is perhaps a little surprising when you consider some of the other contenders...
Some which spring to mind are anal sex (still a powerful one I think), plus much darker ones such as incest and non-consensual sex.
I found this interesting article online, charting common female fantasies and how these link to 'taboo's'. It's not surprising (to me) that the so-called 'rape fantasy' finds its way to the top of the list, but this is still good food for thought... http://www.healthyplace.com/sex/psych...
I find this debate incredibly interesting. I like to push boundaries when I write and in doing so, I run the risk that I may offend part of my readership. This is not my intention, so maybe by understanding sexual taboo's a little more, I might hope to engage you all (rather than upset you!)
As ever your comments are all very welcome, so feel free to join in this debate with me!
Until next week,
