Back-to-School? Yes, Please!

by Ami Weaver

Ok, so it’s not quite that time yet here in Michigan. We are forced, by a very stupid law, to start after Labor Day. I did order my daughter a new backpack today though, so that was a step in the right direction.

But what I really love about this time of year? Office supplies!

Oh, yes. I get all excited the day I walk into Target and see them changing over from the summer stuff in the seasonal section to the school supplies. I am immediately drawn to the stacks of loose-leaf paper, the pretty three-ring binders, the colorful folders and notebooks (college ruled) and the fine-point pens. Oh, and crayons and colored pencils (love!) and markers and pencils (mechanical, of course, with a .5 lead). I begin to toss stuff in my cart. You know, in case they run out. Before school. And in case my kids might need six boxes of crayons. Each.

Interestingly enough, we may occasionally run out of toilet paper, say, or toothpaste–but we have NEVER run out of binder clips or loose-leaf paper. (Phew!) I’m not exactly sure what that says about my shopping. And I can never find my checkbook when I need it, but I can produce an awesome pen to write it when I do find it.

What seemingly little (and possibly useless!) things do you stockpile?  (or am I the only one??)
