2013 Spiritual Themes: Perfect Example of Discernment

Throughout 2013, I’ve been sharing with you six Spiritual Themes that are prominent for us right now as we continue to grow into truer expressions of our authentic, conscious Selves. So how about a real life demonstration of one of these all-important Spiritual Themes in action! Please welcome to the stage, Discernment. Here’s the story.

One of my favorite, favorite, favorite reasons for having a website, radio show, social media accounts, and offering webinars is to share with you high-quality, awesome individuals doing amazing work in the world. I regularly receive requests from people promoting products, books, movies, websites, projects, jewelry - all kinds of cool stuff - because they want to connect with more like-minded souls. And I love that! Because people are amazing! And we can support each other in really incredible ways right now!

But I have a very, very strict filter.

What benefits you, my awesome reader? What is worthy of your time? What would get you excited, inspired, motivated, and feeling uplifted about your Divine self? And what is in alignment with my expertise on consciousness? These are my guiding questions because I value you, and know your time and energy is important. Not every request that arrives in my inbox is a match, but when it is (like these books and radio show guests), I share with the intention that it could be just the right thing at just the right time for you.

So here’s a recent example from my inbox of being discerning. I received a request to support a book release and they wanted to know my secrets to having a bestselling book (SUUUURE, I’ll just give away for free my 15+ years of marketing, branding,and communication experience, no prob! :). Here’s a snippet of the email:

I really do not have any expectations in any way, but wanted to share our creation with a like-minded, spiritually advanced person like yourself…. I look forward to reading your book soon.... and maybe you could share a few (marketing) secrets of your own.

The rest of the email was over-the-top flattering and could initially be viewed as innocent enough. Not everyone has business savvy or knows about marketing, I get that. But then I checked out the website and things didn’t add up (no names, vague contact details, no samples of the work). Intuitively, the book actually felt creepy (fake?), like an attempt to garner fame and money by tricking people with big words and using others’ wisdom. We all know that has huge energetic faults, right?

This is an example of someone using ‘all the right language’ to try and get what they want, and yet no matter how the numbers add up, their intentions are not pure. This request was a solid no, obviously, but it also provides a beautiful, modern example of discernment through email.

Trust the energy and feelings you receive when you’re reading on a screen (Is this a typical business approach I would use to connect with other professionals?).

Question intentions (Would I reach out to someone I don’t know and ask for their “secrets”?).

Sit with what you’re sensing and identify why something may feel off (Why is my face scrunching up as I read and why is my first response to get away from this energy?).

All of these messages are connected to discernment and are meant to support what is best for you. When something is right for me, I know it and feel it deeply - that giddy with excitement sensation where I feel I could do a cartwheel at the computer (errr... not quite perfected yet...)! Knowing that feeling also makes it easier to filter out the rest.

Discernment is now a permanent part of our daily lives, my friends. There are so many different energies on the planet right now that we must honor, protect, and value our own energetic messages the most.

Saying NO to energy, a request, people, anything that feels off is about saying YES to yourself, your self-respect, your journey, and not compromising your integrity. It’s essential right now, and luckily, these decisions will lead you to even more rewards.
