Keeper of Reign

By: Emma Right
Book Description:

Books written in blood. Most are lost, their Keepers with them. A curse that befell a people. A Kingdom with no King. Life couldn’t get more harrowing for the Elfies, a blend of Elves and Fairies. Or for sixteen-year-old Jules Blaze. Or could it? For Jules, the heir of a Keeper, no less, suspects his family hides a forgotten secret. It was bad enough that his people, the Elfies of Reign, triggered a curse which reduced the entire inhabitants to a mere inch centuries ago. All because of one Keeper who failed his purpose. Even the King’s Ancient Books, did not help ward off that anathema. Now, Gehzurolle, the evil lord, and his armies of Scorpents, seem bent on destroying Jules and his family. Why? Gehzurolle’s agents hunt for Jules as he journeys into enemy land to find the truth. Truth that could save him and his family, and possibly even reverse the age-long curse. MY INTERVIEW WITH THE AUTHOR:
I’m very lucky to be interviewing Emma Right, author of Keeper of Reign, Book 1.Hi Emma, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Tell me and the readers a little about yourself and your background? What were you like at school?
I was never much of a talker but I did enjoy doing  a variety of activities. In fact, one time I joined the choir and the math club and the practice times clashed and I got into a lot of trouble since I only could make it to one practice and not the other. So the teachers saw me as somewhat as a truant.
Were you good at English?
I wasn't bad at it, but I don't know if I was exceptional.
What are your ambitions for your writing career?

Write at least thirty books before I leave this earth.
Give us an insight into your main character. What does he/she do that is so special?
Jules Blaze, son of a Keeper, who started out as an annoying sixteen-year old boy, who doesn't realize how much he loved his family till he almost lost them all. But he has a secret which makes him special, but at the same time a target for the evil lord Gehzurolle. But I can't tell you or I'd give it away.
What are you working on at the minute?
I am  currently editing Dead Dreams, a young adult suspenseful thriller, and that should be ready December 2014. And I hope to have Keeper of Reign Book 2 out early 2014. Some readers (book bloggers, mostly,) have asked me to write a prequel for Keeper of Reign. I might. Time is my enemy most days.
What’s Keeper of Reign about?
When I first began writing Keeper of Reign in 2008 it was just a story I made up for my five kids then much younger. They wanted a fun, adventure story set in a fantastical setting and as a mom, I wanted the story to be more than just a fairy-tale. I wanted them to learn about the importance of loving each other--as they grated on each other a lot --and the importance of family, and the value of persevering and so on. So I wove these themes into the tale, at the time called Kingdom of Reign. Then I thought, hey, maybe I could publish this…hence the journey to self-publishing. Keeper of Reign is a journey of self-discovery for an Elfie boy, Jules Blaze, who was born into a keeper of family and was dissatisfied by the state of things in his life--his family, his missing grandparents, his dad at war, and even the fact that his people were cursed. By the end of the horrific journey he begins to appreciate things he took for granted and saw how he could be significant even though he is small.
This is the summary:Books written in blood. Most are lost, their Keepers with them. A curse that befell a people. A Kingdom with no King. Life couldn’t get more harrowing for the Elfies, a blend of Elves and Fairies. Or for sixteen-year-old Jules Blaze. Or could it?

Even the King’s Ancient Books, did not help ward off that anathema.

Truth that could save him and his family, and possibly even reverse the age-long curse. Provided Jules doesn't get himself killed first.
What genre are your books?
I love YA books. I think a part of me is stuck in that age -group, or maybe it's because I basically deal with kids nine to18 everyday….all day…since we homeschool.
What draws you to this genre?
I like the coming of age theme, and the innocence of dealing with kids' themes, and yet still be able to have a message.
Which actor/actress would you like to see playing the lead character from your most recent book?Logan Lurman acting as Jules Blaze.
How much research do you do?
For Keeper of Reign, since it is fantasy, not much research except what's considered natural cures, like what herbs are good for this or that, since the Elfie people have to depend on medicines culled from the forest. There're no Walgreens around the corner for them.
Thank you so much for taking the time to do this interview with me! I am going to purchase your book right now; it sounds like a  must read to me!
