Flat Line, Book three of the Pulse Trilogy
Blurb:One of Elizabeth Park’s greatest moments is about to occur. She is anxiously counting down the days before her wedding to vampire Virgil Hart. With everything falling into place and less than three days before the wedding, the only thing bothering Virgil is his perfectionist sister, Helena, who is hosting the whole event, but that’s not what’s bugging Elizabeth and her mother.
When Elizabeth begins to feel an extra vampire pulse hovering around her, it sets off some warning bells. With an unwelcomed face from the past, it is revealed too late that someone’s been keeping secrets.
With one final bloody battle standing between them, will Elizabeth and Virgil ever find a happy ending, or will unseen forces and secrets be the end of them?
Excerpt:
Annette? Elizabeth’s thoughts sent out into Virgil’s mind. They keep calling me my mom’s name. I don’t know why.
Are you alright, Elizabeth? The room around Virgil slowed down as he tried to hold a mental bond with her.
My hands hurt. I’m tied up. I can’t see anything. The fear in Elizabeth’s thoughts tore at Virgil, but he had to relax.
Can you hear me?
Virgil. I love you. Something doesn’t feel right.
What do you mean?
My mind feels so heavy. My thoughts feel difficult to concentrate. It’s all jumbled.
It’s going to be okay–
There’s light coming in from a window, and I hear vampires below me. I’m on a second floor facing the door.
Elizabeth. Do you know where you–
I don’t know where I am, but I do know that…a dozen and a half…it’s so hard to think. My mind hurts. Elizabeth’s voice grew shaky. I want to go home. I don’t want to be here. I’m scared.
Virgil tightened his jaw and as calmly as he could think, he replied, We are all on our way to come get you. Just hold on. I promise that I will be there soon. I love you.
Virgil. She whispered as though her lips were against his ears. I hope you can hear this.
Virgil’s chest grew heavy. I can hear you! I am right here!
I love you.
Elizabeth! Virgil mentally yelled, but she couldn’t hear him. “Elizabeth!” Virgil yelled out into the room, startling everyone and bringing Annette, her frantic mother, closer to him.
“What happened?” Annette asked, reaching out, but Virgil pulled away.
“She can’t hear me. She can’t hear a word I am thinking,” Virgil spat in confusion. “I don’t understand. We have never had that problem before. Never!” He angrily hit at the air.
“Did she say anything?” Beth asked, softly nibbling on her lip.
“She’s on the second floor. About a dozen and a half vampires,” he answered with a painful intake of breath as he stayed facing away from everyone.
“Anything else?” Annette asked.
“She said they kept calling her Annette. Does that make sense?” he asked, looking over his shoulder.
Annette grew rigid.
“But she isn’t!” Beth yelled. “She isn’t even a full vampire yet. The vampire who took her should know that!”
“These aren’t the smartest bunch of vampires,” Andrel spoke. His voice was cold and his eyes colder. “If they thought they had taken you….”
Annette nodded, turning away. “I know.” The tension in the room thickened.
Virgil looked between the two. He wanted to know everything. He wanted in on their secrets. He crossed the room in a blur to Beth and reached out to Annette, intending to demand what she knew, but Andrel moved much quicker. He pinned Virgil back against the weak greenhouse wall. Annette never moved.
“What aren’t you telling me? What do you know?” Virgil demanded. Andrel loosened his grip, letting Virgil free to move on his own, but he couldn’t. Annette slowly turned and faced him, pinning him in a trance.
“I know who took them,” she said, for certain this time. Her eyes were pained. “And you’re right. It was our job to collect all the vampires turned under William, and we thought we had.”
“What do you mean, and how do you know where she is?”
“We’ve been tracking the vampire and his group. Trying to close in on his nest.”
“Who?” Virgil asked and Annette reached out, placing a hand on Andrel’s shoulder. He covered her hand and nodded. “Who?” Virgil repeated, but a whisper of Elizabeth’s voice tore his attention away from Annette’s taut expression.
The name he heard was impossible. A wave of nausea rushed over him. His voice was dry and his eyes burned. The wall behind him was the only thing keeping him up, but even then he wasn’t sure if he was even still standing. There was no way.
“William,” he heard repeated out loud by Annette.
