My First (But Certainly Not Last) Boudoir Shoot

I got a true ego pick-me-up last  month in the form of a beauty/boudoir photo shoot, courtesy of the FABULOUS Shannon Michelle photography, who happens to have a few New England locations.  http://www.shannonmichellephotography.com/  While I originally booked this shoot for my author photo, I think this benefited me in ways I never expected.  And while not everyone needs an author photo handy, every woman should feel like a supermodel.

Shannon does boudoir shoots (sexy lingerie and come-hither stares) but she also does editorial sessions (sort of high fashion, couture) and also beauty shots.  I think any or all of these would make someone feel like a million bucks.

I came into the studio with a number of dresses, accessories (bright red Emo Ariel wig and all), and was nervous I didn’t pick the right stuff, or somehow it wouldn’t come together.  Then, the make-up artist there did a GORGEOUS pin-up style job on me—you all know how much I love the retro look—and POOF… I no longer worried about what I was wearing or what I’d be doing.  I looked stellar.  I promptly made dinner reservations someplace fancy so I didn’t waste the incredible look she had created.

Then, when it was time for photos, I was so comfortable that I completely “forgot” to think about looking good.  I just posed, did what she said, and felt like a supermodel.  I worked it.  I made sweet sweet love to the camera.  I went home feeling like a total diva.

When it came time to see the photos, I was nervous.  What if I just thought I did great, but the pics didn’t do justice to what was going on in my head?  The doubter in me started some negative self-talk until she put the first slide up.  I gasped, “That’s ME?!”

Do a boudoir shoot and present the photos for your significant other.  Get a beauty shoot done and hang a gorgeous portrait of yourself in your stairwell to remind you every day that you’re incredible.  I think it’s one of the most empowering things a woman can do.

While Shannon operates in New England (south of Boston and Newport, Rhode Island), I’m sure there are photographers all over who specialize in making girls feel spectacular.
